In The Map of Consciousness Explained, author David R. Hawkins describes the Map of Consciousness (copyrighted by The Institute for Spiritual Research, Inc.) that plots each emotion on a frequency scale. Love, a “higher” emotion on the scale, is attributed to an approximate 500 hertz. Only three emotions are above love: joy, peace, and enligtenment. Immediately below love are understanding, forgiveness, and optimism.
Who could have guessed in these postively-inclined times that optimism would be two levels below love? But it makes sense to me that love should follow forgivess and understanding because there’s no love, real love, without acceptance first. The lowest frequency emotion is shame (“Something is wrong with me and my configurations”), something some loves can also rack up in plenty. Right above shame is gulit: “I did something wrong, but my configurations are still okay.”
Love, similar to almost all other things in this world, is in essence an energy. Perhaps, this is why people can move on to one partner after another, with or without ease and grace. Because as Albert Einstein said, “Energy cannot be created or destroye, it can only be changed from one form to another.” The latest representation of the energy doesn’t need to stay fixed; it can morph into other forms, intensifying or desensitizing its signal as needed.
When one moves from partner to partner in quick succession, leaving no time in between for processing and heealing, in psychology, it’s decsribed as enacting a core traumatic wound over and over again. Energetically, since the frequency has not risen much in these cases, the partner is essentially the same one as before, just in a different cloak that would unravel in due course.
As a single woman in my 40s still tuning my love frequency, I take comfort in the idea that love is simply an energy. Although romantic love takes a different tenor and tremor, I can still invoke this energy anywhere with friends, with strangers, with clients, with God, and most importantly within me. When I remember a tender moment with an ex, I can tell myself it’s the energy I’m connecting with, not the exact representation from my past.
I don’t need anyone’s permission to connect to any energy. It’s mine to take anytime I want and need, and yours too.
